The appearance of black diamond basalt varies quite dramatically depending on the chosen finish. The dark gray base colour holds deposits of both deep black and lighter gray minerals, all warmed by subtle olive accents and hints of golden saffron. Light gray elements become more prevalent with textured finishes.
- While Granite comprises much of the continents, Basalt is the predominant bedrock of the Earth's oceans. An extrusive igneous rock, Basalt is formed when magma cools rapidly after emerging through the Earth's crust, its primary source being volcanic activity. Basalts are black to dark gray in base colour and accented with primarily fine-grained components of additional minerals that were brought within it to the surface. Deeply beautiful and extremely durable, basalt earns its name from the Latin basaltes meaning, “very hard stone.”
Your stone's finish is almost as important as the stone type. A different finish on the same stone type can create a very different design aesthetic. Finishes are also determined by function; an area that requires traction for people or vehicles will generally require some kind of chemical or mechanical texturing finish (e.g. “acid washed” or “flamed”).
We can order almost any stone, cut to almost any size, in almost any finish.
